(Salzstock) am Südende der
33 km langen Störungszone
von Porto de Mos-Rio Maior,
an der das Salz aufgedrungen
ist. Bei der erfolglosen Suche
nach Erdöl und Erdgas in den
50 iger Jahren sind bis zu
2000 m aufgestautes Salz
durchbohrt worden.

In den Marinhas do Sal steht der Salzstock direkt unter der Oberfläche an und
das Tal ist durch Ablaugung des Salzes während der Jahrtausende als
"Subrosionssenke" entstanden. Reines Steinsalz ist unter der Saline in einer
Tiefe von 75 m erbohrt worden.
